The three converging colors represent Utah's moniker as "The Crossroads of The West", which represent Promontory Point, where the Transcontinental Railroad first connected, as well as Utah's future as the centralized business, education, innovation and technology hub of the Western United States. The gold hexagon is used to give a unique honeycomb-themed shape and mountain design to the flag. The hexagon, along with the beehive, represent the industry and innovation of the state, and the gold represents the fortune of resources, nature, and people found in Utah. The 6 sides also represent the relationship between the 5 major tribes of Utah and the American people who live in the state of Utah The blue represents the liberty that the original pioneer settlers sought in this state and is a holdover of the colors from the original flag. The blue being presented at the top of the flag represents the sky over the snow, and the Great Salt Lake in the northern area of the state The white represents the purity of the Utah people, and Utah being known for the "greatest snow on earth." It hugs each side of the flag to mimic the geography of the salt flats and flatter portions on the west and east sides of the state, as well as representing how much of the population lives in valleys between snow-covered mountain ranges. It also represents the snow on top of the red-rock peaks of Utah The red represents the original hardiness of the pioneer settlers and the continued bravery of the Utah people. It is placed at the bottom of the flag to represent the foundation each Utahn is built on, and the red rock mountains of Utah's five national parks being found in the southern parts of the state. The Sego Lily is an important symbol to Utah as it prevented starvation for many pioneers and Mormon settlers, representing the perseverance and determination of each Utahn. It also gives a beautiful center design to the flag and keeps an important Utah symbol. The Beehive design represents the people of Utah working together to support each other and create a state of industry. It is already a long-used and beloved symbol of Utah.
