The vaginal microflora is a complex ecosystem. A healthy vaginal microflora consists mainly of lactobacilli, which, by the production of lactic acid, bacteriocines and hydrogen peroxide and their adherence to the vaginal epithelial wall, confer colonization resistance of the vagina against pathogenic agents.
