A new extrusion device is described for time-efficient sectioning of high quality cores of soft-bottom lake sediments, in particular piston cores and core samples that include the undisturbed sediment-water interface. The instrument is lightweight, versatile, and easy to operate in the field while maintaining maximum accuracy in sectioning a sediment profile in predefined increments
