Scabies or scabies is an ectoparasitic infection produced by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis (class Arachnida, subclass Acarina, order Astigmata, family Sarcoptidae). It has a worldwide distribution, with an estimated global prevalence of 300 million cases.
