International audienceAvailable data on the cemeteries of Lorraine from the end of the first Iron Age and of the second Iron Age are for the most part disparate, being based primarily on early excavations. From the end of Hallstatt (Ha D2-D3) to the beginning of the middle La Tène period inhumation graves are generally added to barrows that had been in use since the end of the Bronze Age; sometimes these co-exist with quadrangular enclosures containing flat graves. The furniture seems very standardized. Weapons are almost absent. The transition to the middle La Tène period is characterized by the change from inhumation to cremation in ceramic vessels.
