High strength aluminium alloys from 2000 series are widespread in aircraft industry for their low weight and good mechanical performance but they must be protected against corrosion. Trivalent chromium conversion processes start to be applied in replacement of hexavalent chromium conversion coatings. The formation of TCP coatings is strongly influenced by surface preparation which generates copper enrichment on the surface. This study is focused on the characterisation of deoxidizers containing nitric acid, sulphuric acid and Fe(III) on 2024-T3 aluminium alloy.
