First methodological and architectural approaches of rocky structures (except the church) in Lalibela area (Ethiopia). The Lalibela area, in northern of Ethiopia, is mainly known for the rock‐hewn churches. Nevertheless, artificial cavities, potentially meant for settlement, have been also identified in the landscape. Barely mentioned in the bibliography, the sites are only documented thanks to extensive data acquisition work on the field. Located on the Ethiopian highlands, they benefit from a lithological and geomorphological environment that is favourable to their implantation.
