Séance : Le MicrobiomeInternational audienceRuminants, similar to humans and other mammals, host trillions of symbiotic microbes, the microbiota,in their skin, digestive, respiratory and genital tracts. The composition and functions of these microbiotasdepends on their location. A particularity of ruminants is the presence of a specialized microbiota in therumen composed by bateria (50 % of biomass), protozoa, archea and fungi. Omics approaches, particularly new-generation sequencing, have made possible to characterize members of the microbiota, their genes and their activities. The ruminal microbiota, located upstream of the absorption sites, has acentral role in ruminant nutrition. Ruminant production is also impacted by the gut microbiota ...
