The principle of rationality is one of the main methodological norms defining scientific practice. I the article I am discussing different aspects of alchemic practices, Boyle’s laboratory work and modern laboratory sciences on the basis of the intersubjective communication and repeatability of experimental results. I am arguing in favour of the thesis that the manner of respecting this rule marks out the demarcation line between pseudo-scientific alchemic knowledge and Boyle’s protochemical works, but, at the same time, between Boyle’s laboratory practices and modern laboratory sciences.The principle of rationality is one of the main methodological norms defining scientific practice.
