Marxism - as the first stage of the ideological evolu-tion of Polish philosopher - not only marked the beginning of the scientific career of L. Kolakowski, but also made his life a kind of "intellectual ad-venture", which was initially firmly rooted in atheism rejecting any religion understood as a brake on human development. The stage of revisionism of Marxist ideas translated into a more humanistic direction in the reflection of L. Kolakowski, where man, not history, is perceived as an active creator of values. The last stage, the post-Marxist stage, opens a long and abundanttrail of "critical sympathy" towards Christianity in the intellectual biographyof L. Kolakowski.
