Summarization: The Mediterranean is a dimensional existence that expresses polymorphy where its ambiguous borders represent a complexity that in a way defines the identity of Europe. It is fundamental to investigate the syncretism of the Mediterranean both on a theoretical and administrative basis. In order to envision a possible future of the Great Sea it is essential to explore historical and philosophical views from a variety of scholars as well as go through European, National, and Regional planning policies of the Union using a multiscale top down and bottom up approach to bridge those findings. The main focus is on the insular territories of Europe and specifically the six largest islands of the Mediterranean.
