The growing bush-to-urban interface, coupled with the increased severity of climate change impacts, has resulted in more frequent and widespread bushfire events. This increased severity and regularity of bushfire events has resulted in the destruction and costly rebuild of many residential homes across Australia, with over 3000 homes being destroyed in the recent 2019/2020 Black Summer Fires. With the significant and expensive damage caused by such events, incorporating bushfire resilience into residential design has become essential. Increasing the integrity of external wall configurations and thus improving the exterior building envelope is identified as a potential solution to minimise building losses during such events.
