Tabanus cheliopterus Rondani, 1850 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1850c: 192. TYPE LOCALITY: “ Carolina [Carolina (North America)]”. TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (MRSN: Box 1755): Tabanus L. cheliopterus Rndn., ♀, Carolina / Tabanus cheliopterus Rond. 1850: 192, Carolina. CURRENT STATUS: valid species (Philip 1950: 304, 1965b: 333). REMARKS: Rondani (1850c: 192) described Tabanus cheliopterus from just the female sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui.
