Culex spathipalpis Rondani, 1872 ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1872a: 31. TYPE LOCALITY: “ Italia [Italy]”. TYPE MATERIAL: 3 ♂♂, 6 ♀♀, syntypes (MZUF: Box 57): Culex Lin. / spathipalpis Rndn. / 3027; 1 ♂, syntype (MZUF: Box 57): Culex Lin. / spathipalpis Rndn. / 3027 / “ Metatarso basi tantum pallid ” [only the base of metatarsus pale]; 2 ♂♂, 1 ♀, syntypes (MZUF: Box 67): Culex Lin. / spathipalpis Rndn., ♀ / 3031. CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Culiseta longiareolata (Macquart, 1838) (Minář 1991: 87, Harbach 2018: 122). REMARKS: Rondani (1872a: 31) included Culex spathipalpis as a new species in a key but did not provide a detailed description, number or length of the specimens, but provided specific characters for the male.
