Kepuasan kerja merupakan perasaan positif tentang pekerjaan yang dihasilkan dari evaluasi karakteristiknya, sehingga dengan kepuasan kerja tinggi memiliki perasaan positif dalam bekerja dan sebaliknya, namun hal ini dapat menjadi negatif apabila adanya perubahan kompetensi, linkungan kerja yang tidak sehat serta kompensasi atas kinerja pegawai tidak sesuai sehingga kepuasan kerja tidak ditemukan secara optimal. Kebaruan dalam penelitian ini karena meneliti tentang pengaruh kompetensi dan lingkungan kerja terhadap kepuasan kerja melalui kompensasi kerja pegawai.
