Research indicates that with proper social and emotional competency, students can be self-aware, make healthy decisions, form meaningful relationships, manage their behaviors, and interact with others in a socially appropriate manner. Mindfulness is an increasingly popular practice in education, which supports the development of social and emotional competence in students. Curriculums such as Mind Up, The Kindness Curriculum, and Mindful Schools, utilize mindful practices to help students in the development of social and emotional competence. Recommendations for practice and future research are also considered
