Joint soil project proposed

Article discusses Brookton farmer, Harry Whittington who has been asked to take part in a soil conservation project. The project will compare Mr. Whittington's approach to soil conservation with that of the Department of Agriculture. The Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Dick Old said that he had asked the department to liaise with Mr. Whittington in designing the project. Some farmers had criticised the department's salt land reclamation policies, Mr. Old said. Mr. Whittington was seeing good results with his applied soil conservation measures. Both the department and Mr. Whittington's methods aimed to control run-off and seepage, which was recognised as being important in controlling salt encroachment.
