Healer ethnography - Methods and reflections After a review of the characteristics and objectives of social anthropology, André Julliard defines the social anthropology of illness applied here to healers and to their gift as a global analysis of illness and explains its meaning in this kind of therapy which answers the question : why am I ill ? Illness, and at the origin there is always a human error, is then considered as an elementary form of the event. Then the author touches on the question of the transmission of the gift placed between belief and social reality. The relation between the healer and his prayer is not an esoteric one. It is not an initiation 'rite either. The point is, fundamentally, to be on neighbourly terms with the others in the village.Après un rappel des caractéristiques et des objectifs de l'anthropologie sociale, André Julliard définit l'anthropologie sociale de la maladie, appliquée ici aux leveurs de maux et à leur don, comme analyse globale de la maladie et de son sens dans cette thérapie qui répond à la question : pourquoi suis-je malade ? La maladie, à l'origine de laquelle est toujours une erreur humaine, y est alors posée comme une forme élémentaire de l'événement. L'auteur aborde ensuite la question de la transmission du don, situé entre la croyance et la réalité sociale. Le rapport du leveur et de sa prière n'est ni une relation ésotérique ni une initiation : il s'agit, fondamentalement, de satisfaire dans le village une relation de bon voisinage.Julliard André.
