To protect Saint-Pétersbourg from frequent and, sometimes, disastrous floods, a dam is being built between the Neva bay and the gulf of Finland. At the end of the 1980s it is not finished but it seems that the bay is increasingly polluted. Despite the lack of evidence, it was decided to stop work on the project in 1990.
