Background: In Ayurveda whenever poisonous drugs (Visha Dravya) used as a part of medicine, they need purification (Shodhana) before therapeutic use. Peet Karveer (Thevetia neriifolia Juss.) is a cardiac poison which contains mainly cardiac glycosides like Cerberin, Nerifolin, Thevetin A and B, Peruvoside, Ruvoside. If the toxic components are removed then Thevetia neriifolia Juss is a good source of medicine in many Ayurvedic formulations as an ingredient.
