The role of companion animals in rituals and funeral ceremonies in the Uppland area from the Vendel period to the Christianization of Sweden.

Zwierzęta pełniły i wciąż pełnią kluczową rolę w funkcjonowaniu ludzkości, od jej samego początku. Udomowienie zwierząt było jednym z najważniejszych momentów w historii ludzkiego życia. Pozwoliło to zawiązać trwałą i nierozerwalną więź, która pogłębia się każdego dnia. To właśnie zwierzęta stanowiły ważny aspekt wierzeń społeczności Skandynawskiej zamieszkującej te ziemie w okresie Vendel i Wikińskim. Podkreślają to nie tylko liczne źródła pisane, dzięki którym jesteśmy w stanie poznać wiele aspektów życia duchowego Skandynawów, ale też liczne znaleziska archeologiczne, w namacalny sposób obrazujące wysokie znaczenie zwierząt. Mimo iż obecność zwierząt w grobach w tym okresie jest widoczna na wielu terenach Skandynawii, to właśnie na terenach Upplandu, zwyczaj ten zaznaczył się najmocniej i osiągnął swe apogeum. Celem tej pracy jest dokładna analiza źródeł pisanych, archeologicznych oraz archeozoologicznych mająca na celu zarysowanie badanego zjawiska, a także przybliżenia się do poznania roli, jaką pełniły zwierzęta w świecie ówczesnych Skandynawów. Pozwoli to odkryć nowe, niezbadane dotąd aspekty wierzeń oraz rytuałów wikingów, w których zwierzęta pełniły niebanalną funkcję.Animals have played and continue to play a key role in the functioning of humanity from its inception. The domestication of animals was one of the most important moments in the history of human life. This allowed for a lasting and unbreakable bond that deepens every day. It was animals that constituted an important aspect of the beliefs of the Scandinavian community inhabiting these lands during the Vendel and Viking period. This is emphasized not only by numerous written sources, thanks to which we are able to learn about many aspects of the spiritual life of Scandinavians, but also numerous archaeological finds, in a tangible way showing the high importance of animals. Although the presence of animals in graves during this period is visible in many areas of Scandinavia, it is in the Uppland area that this custom was most pronounced and reached its apogee. The aim of this work is a thorough analysis of written, archaeological and archaeological sources in order to outline the phenomenon under study, as well as to get to know the role played by animals in the world of Scandinavians at the time. This will allow you to discover new, previously unexplored aspects of Viking beliefs and rituals in which animals played a remarkable role
