Tungsten is considered an excellent material for the realisation of components protecting the plasma facing materials in nuclear fusion reactors. In this work, the CuCrZr - W / Cu - W system is studied in order to evaluate the efficiency of the interlayer consisting in a functional graded material (FGM), obtained by plasma spraying (PS). Residual stresses are measured using X-ray diffraction technique (XRD). The coating and interlayer exhibit excellent adhesion without the presence of interfaces and cracks. The results show that the use of an FGM interlayer allows to improve the quality of the joint decreasing the accumulation of residual stresses of the coating and substrate
