Among the main functions that the port of Taranto had to perform in the ancient world were those that allowed the stop, shelter and loading / unloading of goods transported inside the boats. Amphorae were the transport containers par excellence and often constituted the cargo of those ships that landed in Taranto. For this reason they represent one of the best questionable traces in order to reconstruct and re-tie the network of mobility and maritime connections, of commercial circuits and of the needs of local communities linked to the consumption of foodstuffs.
