HIBRIDITAS KAUM NETHERLANDS DALAM NOVEL JANSHEN KAJIAN POSTKOLONIALISME

This study aims to describe the existence of hybridity in the novel Janshen by Risa Saraswati. The novel tells how the life of the Dutch who transmigrated to the Dutch East Indies to trade as uniform suppliers and experienced hybridity. Hybridity is a combination of two or more cultures without losing the original culture. The hybridity experienced by several characters in the novel is influenced by the emergence of a new culture because they are in different places. The new culture is influenced by the changing order of life of characters in everyday novels. It is the aim of the researcher to find out (1) the form of hybridity experienced by the Dutch and (2) the factors causing hybridity in the novel Janshen by Risa Saraswati. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data were analyzed from the data set by descriptive technique. Data collection was collected by means of reading and note-taking techniques in the form of dialogue quotes between characters and narrations sourced from the novel Janshen by Risa Saraswati, with a study of postcolonialism. The results contained in this study suggest a form of hybridity to the mixture of western and eastern cultures, namely: language, education, means of transportation, culture, and food experienced by the characters in the novel. One form of hybridity is Janshen, who is more fluent in Malay than Dutch because he lives side by side with the natives. The factor of hybridity in the novel is caused by economics, lifestyle, and communication. Starting from transmigrating to the Dutch East Indies until the characters in the novel experience hybridity and their lives change
