Mammoths were the larger of the two animals, and lived in a plains / prairie environment, such as once existed in eastern Arkansas. Therefore, they had teeth which were specifically adapted to eating the various species of grass found on the plains: the large ridges visible on the fossil mammoth tooth pictured here allowed these animals to grind down the fibrous grasses that they ate.https://digitalcommons.memphis.edu/chnash-museum-chucalissa-gallery2/1143/thumbnail.jp
