Mastodons lived in a forest environment and so they had teeth which were adapted to eating nuts, bark, and tree leaves: the sharper profile of the resin-cast mastodon tooth pictured here allowed mastodons to break down these harder, less uniformly-shaped foods. Although it does not appear that mammoths lived in what is now the Memphis area, there is evidence that mastodons did: several mastodon fossils were discovered along the Nonconnah Creek in Memphis in the late 1970s!https://digitalcommons.memphis.edu/chnash-museum-chucalissa-gallery2/1144/thumbnail.jp
