El nudo gordiano de las políticas indígenas de los grupos chaqueños. Misiones, misioneros y guerras en la génesis de una sociedad de jefatura, segunda mitad del siglo XVIII

The Jesuit Missions were established in the Chaco region by the middle of the 18th century in order to stop the attacks by the indigenous people. The Mission of San Jerónimo del Rey, directed to the abipones, seemed to be a bulwark of the peace pursued by the missions. The abipones were in conflict with other members of the same indigenous group and also with other neighboring groups. This article discusses a series of confrontations that had their epicenter in the Mission of San Jerónimo and make it possible to offer some explanations of the process of the creation of chiefdoms. Key words: abipones, chiefdoms, jesuitical missions.Las misiones jesuíticas se establecieron en el espacio chaqueño durante los años centrales del siglo XVIII, con el objetivo de poner un freno a los ataques de los indígenas. La Misión de San Jerónimo del Rey, conformada por abipones, aparecía como un bastión de la paz que se pretendía establecer. Los abipones por su parte se encontraban insertos en una zaga de conflictos tanto con algunos de sus pares abipones así como con otros grupos vecinos. Este artículo analiza una serie de enfrentamientos, con epicentro en la Misión de San Jerónimo, que permite brindar algunas explicaciones sobre el proceso de conformación de jefaturas.
