Results of field trials show that climatic conditions are suitable for perennial grasses within 30 to 70 km of the west and south coasts from Perth to Albany and Cape Riche. Within this area, significant plant-soil interactions have been recorded in the species which have been most widely tested. For high production on podzolic and red earth soils in the 800 mm and above rainfall area, Dactylis glomerata, Phalaris aquatica and Festuca arundinacea of Mediterranean type require an early start to the season
