The European approach adopted to predict the joint behaviour is based on the so-called component method, which starts from the identification and characterization of a number of components used to assembly a mechanical model able to predict the joint rotational behaviour. In case of bolted joints, usually the components representing the main sources of resistance and deformability (i.e. the bolted plates), can be modelled by means of equivalent T-stubs, whose characterization has a key role in order to get the whole joint response.
