The sale of collection of the Prince Lelio Orsini in Rome (1698-1706)

Thanks to the discovery of previously unknown documents, the the present study is able to reconstructs the sale of the collection of Lelio Orsini, Prince of Vicovaro. Sold between about 1698 and 1706, the collection of paintings and drawings, described by Giovan Pietro Bellori in 1664, was formed of Old Masters and important Baroque painters, including Raphael, Polidoro da Caravaggio, Lotto, Carracci, Domenichino, Saraceni, and Van Poelenburgh. Many important people from Roman society attended the succession of sales: Padre Resta, Cardinal Albani (the future Pope Clement XI), Marchesa Renzi Strozzi, Princess Giustiniani Savelli, Marquis Pallavicini and the Spanish Ambassador the Duke of Uzed
