The Human Rights of Children and Adolescents in Paraguay: Towards an Autonomous Defender who Looks After their Best Interest

El objetivo de este estudio es poner en tela de juicio las funciones desempeñadas por el actual Departamento de Niñez y Adolescencia de la Defensoría del Pueblo de Paraguay y subrayar la necesidad de crear una nueva institución autónoma de defensa de los derechos humanos de la infancia y la adolescencia. En ese contexto, se incorporan las recomendaciones consideradas como esenciales para que esta figura cuente con funciones reales de garantía de los derechos de los niños, niñas y adolescentes en Paraguay.The aim of this study is to question the functions performed by the current Department of Children and Adolescents of the Ombudsman of Paraguay and to highlight the need to create a new autonomous institution for the defense of the human rights of children. In this context, it will conclude with the recommendations considered essential so that figure has real functions to guarantee the rights of children and adolescents in Paraguay
