In a criminal case, the fulfillment and granting of witness rights to obtain legal protection in order to create a sense of security is a very important requirement, because this affects the process of examining a criminal act so that it runs optimally. Witnesses in the process of examining a criminal act have a very important position, this is based on Article 184 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) which contains various types of evidence, namely witness statements, expert statements, letters, instructions and statements. defendant. The demand for the need for the protection of witnesses who have information about a criminal act is the implementation of the principle of equality before the law (equality before the law), as a feature of the rule of law, witnesses in a criminal justice process must be given legal protection. The purpose of writing this thesis focuses on the legal protection of witnesses whether or not it is in accordance with the right to a sense of security and the principle of maqashid shari'ah hifdzu nafs. The right to a sense of security is a form of human right that is inherent in every human individual since he was born in the world, so that with this the state has an obligation to be able to provide protection for witnesses from various forms of threats that may endanger the life of a witness. The method used by the author is descriptive research with a normative juridical approach. The results of the research conducted by the author can be concluded that the legal protection of witnesses from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is in accordance with the right to a sense of security and the principle of maqashid shari'ah hifdzu nafs
