Can a ridge tile be a monk? Metaphors in the language of architecture on the example of Polish and Swedish general building construction terminology

Celem pracy jest analiza kontrastywna polskiej i szwedzkiej terminologii architektonicznej z zakresu budownictwa ogólnego pod kątem występujących w materiale językowym metafor. W części teoretycznej pracy przedstawiono aktualny stan badań lingwistycznych nad językiem architektury oraz krótką charakterystykę języków specjalistycznych, a także definicję terminu i jego źródła. Przybliżono ponadto bieżący stan badań nad metaforą, podając krótki przegląd współczesnych teorii oraz definicje metafory pojęciowej i katachrezy. W części analitycznej opisano terminy metaforyczne w obu językach oraz oceniono zgodność domen źródłowych w projekcjach metaforycznych. Materiał został podzielony na trzy kategorie pojęć – wywodzące się z domeny antropomorficznej, animistycznej lub botanicznej. Badane jednostki leksykalne zostały uporządkowane i zebrane w tabeli.The aim of the paper is a contrastive analysis of Polish and Swedish architectural terminology in the field of general building construction in terms of the metaphors present in the linguistic material. The theoretical part of the paper presents the current state of linguistic research into the language of architecture and a brief characteristic of specialist languages, as well as the definition of term and its sources. Furthermore, the current state of research on metaphor is presented, giving a brief overview of contemporary theories and definitions of conceptual metaphor and catachresis. The analytical part describes metaphorical terms in both languages and assesses the compatibility of source domains in metaphorical projections. The material was divided into three categories of terms – derived from anthropomorphic, animistic or botanical domains. The studied lexical units were arranged and collected in a table
