This dissertation is a comparative study of Anglo-American public opinion of the 1898 Spanish-American War, the Philippine insurrection of 1899 - 1902 provoked by American occupation, and Britain\u27s war with the Boers in South Africa, 1899 - 1902. Earlier studies have not been nearly so comprehensive, examining public opinion from either Britain\u27s point of view or that from the united States, but not both. Further, what is aimed at here is not what Britons thought of their war in South Africa, but what Americans professed and believed about the conflict.
