The employment of renewable energy sources is driving an increase of the amount of embedded generation that is connected to the medium and low voltage distribution networks. This penetration brings new challenges to improve the grid operation, but also concerns because these parts of the grid were not designed to host generation. These energy sources are usually interfaced by power electronic converters, e.g. inverters, which are flexible in terms of control capability. For instance, they can control output currents or voltages, both in phase and amplitude.
