International audienceAfter a period of disinterest since the major works of Braudel, French geohistory has been experiencing a renewal since the 1990s. Thise paper outlines the historical geography of France, Germany and Europe, explaining the territorial formation and the pattern of concentration of the most important economic activities between Northern Italy ant the Netherlands. This new French geohistorical approach emphasizes economic, social and political factors and uses locational analysis. There used explains the lack of interest in géographical research of the history of societies and space until recently. Today, French research in geohistory shows a growing interest in an historical approach to space at various scales.
