National audienceIn January 2003 a projectile experiment has been performed in the Musée du Malgré-Tout (Treignes, Viroinval, Belgium), involving the use of fork-based antler points as projectile tips. Our goals were to test the performance of these points as weapons elements, and to record diagnostic patterns of breakage. The 371 upper Magdalenian fork-based points form the cave site of Isturitz (Saint-Martin-d'Arberoue, Pyrénées-Atlantiques), kept at the Musée des Antiquités Nationales (Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Yvelines) were used for archaeological comparisons. 42 points were manufactured from reindeer antler ; 21 were hafted to arrows shot with a bow, and the other 21 to spears thrown with a spearthrower.
