Remote working

Flexitime, flexi-place work is well-established among professionals, consultants, and managers. However, during 2020’s global COVID-19 pandemic, remote working swiftly emerged as the only viable option to keep companies going. Employers assisted employees on all levels in their organisations in setting up workable home offices within a short period. Evidence of workers’ devotion, a spontaneous fragmentation of work into smaller, easier-to-manage units, and workers’ appreciation of increased time and location flexibility have paved the way for remote working becoming a more permanent option in the future. This paper presents a review of literature and worldwide research to explicate the beginnings of teleworking, the adoption of remote working by major international companies over time, and related experiences during the pandemic locally. Attention is devoted to why some American companies have reverted to more traditional office settings.
