Interview of Tatyana Woodall by Kevlin Haire

Remote interview conducted at The Ohio State University Archives, Columbus, Ohio.Tatyana Woodall discusses her experiences as a student at Ohio State, particularly as the editor-in-chief of Black x Bold magazine, a student publication focused on students of color that was launched in 2020. Woodall, who grew up in Cincinnati, was involved in student journalism in high school, and after she arrived at Ohio State in the fall of 2017, she joined The Lantern. She also was a member of Ohio State's student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), and she recalls one meeting where the idea of establishing a new magazine to give a voice to the University's Black student community was discussed. It was soon launched online as Black x Bold Magazine, but it wasn't until June 2020 that Woodall became involved in the organization, when she was asked to be editor-in-chief. In that role, she led the publication to it first printing in the fall of 2020. She subsequently led the publication through a second printing in the spring of 2021. Woodall discusses the process of publishing a new student publication, particularly during a pandemic. She also talks about what it was like to be a student in general during the pandemic and about her plans after graduation in Spring 2021
