Isoprene is one of the most abundant non-methane hydrocarbons emitted by vegetation into the troposphere. For a long time, it has been generally accepted that isoprene oxidation did not contribute to global SOA burden because of the volatility of its main oxidation products (methacrolein, methyl vinyl ketone...)
