Cardiff 2050: City regional scenarios for urban sustainability

What would a sustainable future look like for Cardiff and South East Wales?This report describes three distinctive long term (2050) city regionalfutures: i) Connected Cardiff; ii) Compact Cardiff–Wilderness Valleys;and iii) Orchard Cardiff City-Region. Developed through an in-depthparticipatory back-casting and foresight process, these scenarios are not predictions. Rather they are intended to open up debate and inform current societal choices through exploring how a range of pressures and societal responses might play out at the city regional scale.The Cardiff 2050 City Regional Scenarios for Urban Sustainability were developed by the Retrofit 2050 project team on the basis of an extensive research process that spanned 2011-2013, including: a series of workshops that brought together national experts in the fields of water, waste, energy and transport; workshops incorporating regional stakeholders from local government, industry and civil society groups; semi-structured interviews with regional stakeholders; and a desk-based review of relevant policy documents and grey literature
