L’objet de ce travail de thèse est d’examiner la possibilité de donner un sens à la distinction classique entre l’analytique et le synthétique. Bien qu’intuitive de prime abord, celle-ci tend à être reléguée au rang de reliquat d’un projet philosophique désormais dépassé : le conventionnalisme logique. Il s’agit donc ici à la fois d’analyser les objections historiques classiques contre cette notion, mais également les propositions qui ont pu émerger par la suite, pour tenter de redéfinir ces notions. Cet examen soulève alors une interrogation : les difficultés à rendre compte des énoncés analytiques ne proviennent-elles pas d’une caractérisation égarante, à savoir le fait d’être « vrai en vertu de la signification » ?
