Robert Leonard Christensen oral history interview

Oral history interview with former commercial fisherman Robert Christensen. Christensen began fishing with his father when he was a teenager and eventually began running his father\u27s boat on his own. The Oculina Bank was one of their main fishing areas and the source of 50 percent of their income. The increasing regulations to the area had a negative effect on their fishing, to the extent that, in 1998, they had to sell their boat. After that, Christensen became a plumber and worked at other land jobs, including in a fish market. Christensen is opposed to closed areas but accepts limits, although in his opinion, nature sets its own regulations and limits. He does not believe that commercial fishing has a future in Fort Pierce due to the increased regulation; like him, many other fishermen can no longer afford to do it and are selling their boats
