This is an oral history interview with Holocaust concentration camp liberator Albert J. Adams. Adams was a member of the 11th Armored Division when it liberated Mauthausen-Gusen on May 5, 1945. Arriving in Europe in late 1944, the division progressed through France, Belgium, Germany, and Austria during the Battle of the Bulge and the Central Europe Campaign. Adams describes his experiences leading up to their arrival at Mauthausen, which they learned about from other American soldiers. One of the camp\u27s prisoners approached him and asked, in English, to borrow his carbine, which he allowed.
