Architect

Vaclovas Michnevičius (Wacław Michniewicz, 1866–1947), a Lithuanian engineer and architect, graduated in architecture and road and bridge building from the Institute of Civil Engineering in St Petersburg in 1893. He moved to Vilnius, and from 1904 to 1912 he was the Vilnius city architect. He drew a design for the Vilnius Market, rebuilt the city hall (now the Philharmonic Hall), a housing development next to Lukiškės Square, the city theatre, and other buildings. Several churches in Lithuania were built from his designs. From 1919 to 1925, he worked in Kaunas, and he spent his last few years in his native Strebeikiai.
