In service teachers’ idea of science was investigated through group interviews followed by qualitative analysis based on grounded theory. Their idea of science was polymorphous depending on the science topic discussed : when the science-technology-society context is characterized, almost all ideas are akin to a constructivist view but when the nature of science, its aims or procedures are discussed, more than half of the ideas are typically empiricist views.
