In this research we examine the theoretical framework with which ten student teachers conceptualise what they mean by learning and teaching science. In order to do so, we make use of the concept of social representation as a conceptual instrument to explore the almost inextricably linked cognitive and social aspects of their conceptions, as well as the relations they establish between theory and pratice.
