International Day of Monument Protection, 17-18 April 2008

Ustanowiony w 1983 roku przez Komitet Wykonawczy ICOMOS Międzynarodowy Dzień Ochrony Zabytków jest w Polsce obchodzony co roku w innym, szczególnie ważnym dla dziedzictwa narodowego miejscu. Najczęściej jest to wyróżniający się swym pięknem zabytek, którego obecna uroda nierzadko jest wynikiem żmudnych i przeprowadzonych na wysokim poziomie prac konserwatorskich. Od ubiegłego roku weszło w życie obchodzenie tego Dnia w miejscach uznanych decyzją Prezydenta Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej za Pomniki Historii. W 2008 roku uroczystości odbyły się w zespole klasztornym w Gostyniu w Wielkopolsce (w zachodniej części Polski), obejmującym piękne, barokowe zabytki - bazylikę i budynek samego klasztoru. Zakonnicy z Gostynia od połowy XVII wieku aż do dziś odgrywają - oprócz religijnej - także ważną rolę kulturotwórczą, pielęgnując tradycje muzyczne na bardzo wysokim poziomie. W przeddzień właściwych obchodów odbyła się sesja naukowa „Definicja zabytku”. Wygłoszono pięć interesujących referatów poświęconych m.in. definicji zabytku nieruchomego i archeologicznego, fenomenologicznemu pojęciu zabytku i znaczenia rejestru zabytków dla praktyki konserwatorskiej. Pierwszą część Gali Międzynarodowego Dnia Ochrony Zabytków w dniu 18 kwietnia 2008 roku stanowił uroczysty koncert wykonany we wnętrzach Bazyliki. Wypełniły go przede wszystkim utwory Józefa Zeidlera - kompozytora powiązanego z Gostyńskim Sanktuarium Świętej Góry, którego twórczość wykazuje duże pokrewieństwa z także prezentowaną na koncercie muzyką Mozarta Oficjalne obchody odbywały się pod Patronatem Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego P. Bogdana Zdrojewskiego. W Jego imieniu prowadził je Generalny Konserwator Zabytków, Podsekretarz Stanu w Ministerstwie Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego P. Tomasz Merta. Na wstępie reprezentujący Prezydenta RP P. Minister Ryszard Legutko wręczył Księdzu Superiorowi Kongregacji Oratorium św. Filipa Neri akt uznający Sanktuarium świętogórskie za Pomnik Historii. Wystąpili także: Minister w Kancelarii Premiera P. Rafał Grupiński, a także gospodarze województwa wielkopolskiego i powiatu gostyńskiego. Przede wszystkim jednak Międzynarodowy Dzień Ochrony Zabytków jest „świętem tych wszystkich osób, którym drogie jest ratowanie i ochrona zabytków”, „świętem konserwatorów, architektów i urbanistów, uczonych innych specjalności, artystów, duchownych, działaczy samorządowych, autorów książek o tej tematyce i ich wydawców, a także pasjonatów - osób prywatnych” Dlatego też co roku 18 kwietnia najbardziej zasłużeni spośród nich otrzymują nagrody za swoje prace na rzecz ratowania zabytków. W bieżącym roku wręczono Nagrodę im. Ks. Janusza Stanisława Pasierba -”Conservator Ecclesiae” - w dziedzinie ochrony i konserwacji architektury i sztuki sakralnej; dziewięć nagród w Konkursie Generalnego Konserwatora Zabytków „Zabytek Zadbany” (w trzech kategoriach: architektury i budownictwa mieszkalnego oraz użyteczności publicznej, zabytków dziedzictwa przemysłowego oraz zabytków sakralnych); trzy Wielkopolskie Nagrody Konserwatorskie; odznaki „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej” i „Za Opiekę nad Zabytkami” dla pracowników policji i służby celnej przeciwdziałających zagrożeniom polskich dóbr kultury. Najwięcej nagród i wyróżnień tradycyjnie przynosi Konkurs Generalnego Konserwatora Zabytków i Stowarzyszenia Konserwatorów Zabytków na najlepsze prace naukowe, projektowe i popularyzatorskie z ochrony zabytków i muzealnictwa. Za 2007 rok przyznano 10 nagród, 5 wyróżnień i 2 nagrody honorowe. Nagrodę specjalną przyznali Prezesi Polskich Pracowni Konserwacji Zabytków SA i Stowarzyszenia Konserwatorów Zabytków; wręczono także nagrodę .Książka Roku. Zarządu Głównego SKZ. Uroczystość zakończyło uhonorowanie „Laurem Roku 2008” . przyznanym przez pismo „Spotkania z Zabytkami” - właścicielki i opiekunki prywatnego, drewnianego dworku na południu Polski. Obchody Międzynarodowego Dnia Ochrony Zabytków w 2008 roku pozwoliły jeszcze raz przypomnieć o wielkiej roli dziedzictwa kulturowego, pomogły zintegrować ludzi zainteresowanych i pasjonujących się ochroną zabytków, a także zaowocowały imprezami i dyskusjami wzbogacającymi szeroko pojętą kulturę na wysokim poziomie.The International Day of Monument Protection, established in 1983 by the Executive Committee of ICOMOS, has been celebrated in Poland every year in different places particularly important for national heritage. Most frequently it is a landmark chosen for its outstanding beauty which usually is a result of painstaking conservation work of very high quality. Since last year, the Day has been celebrated on sites which, by the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland, are regarded as Monuments of History. In 2008, the celebrations took place in the monastery complex in Gostyn, Greater Poland (in the western part of Poland), which encompasses beautiful Baroque buildings . the basilica and the monastery itself. Since the mid-17th century until now, the monks from Gostyn have played a significant cultural role. besides religious - by maintaining their musical traditions on a very high standard. On the eve of the proper celebrations, there was a scientific session entitled “Definition of Monument “. Five interesting papers presented during the session concerned such issues as e.g. the definition of monument landmark and archaeological artefact, phenomenological concept of monument and the role of a monument register for conservation practice. The first part of the gala of the International Day of Monument Protection on April 18, 2008, was the concert performed in the Basilica. It comprised mainly the works of Józef Zeidler - a composer connected with the Sanctuary of Święta Góra (Holy Mountain) in Gostyn, whose artistic output shows striking resemblance to Mozart’s music, also performed on the concert. The official event was held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and national Heritage, Mr Bogdan Zdrojewski. On his behalf, it was presided over by the General Landmark Conservator, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, Mr Tomasz Merta. At the beginning, Minister Ryszard Legutko, representing the President of the Republic of Poland, awarded Father Superior of the Congregation of the Oratory of St. Philip Neri with an act acknowledging the Święta Góra Sanctuary as a Monument of History. Among the guests attending the ceremony were: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Rafał Grupiński, and local authorities from the Greater Poland Voivodship and Gostyn district. Above all, the International Day of Monument Protection is meant to honour all those people who care about saving and protecting monuments, so to honour conservators, architects and urban planners, scientists from various fields, artists, clergymen, local authority activists, authors of books on the issue and their publishers, as well as passionate individuals. That is why every year on April 18 the most deserving among them are rewarded for their efforts to save monuments. This year, the Prize of Rev. Janusz Stanisław Pasierb “Conservator Ecclesiae”. was awarded for protection and conservation of church art and architecture; nine prizes in the Competition of the General Landmark Conservator entitled “A Well - Looked After Monument” (in three categories: public architecture and housing industry, industrial heritage monuments and church architecture); three Greater Poland Conservation Awards; medals of Merit for Polish Culture and “for Protection of Monuments” - awarded to police and customs officers who counteract the dangers threatening Polish cultural heritage. The most prizes and distinctions are traditionally awarded in the Competition of the General Landmark Conservator and the Association of Monument Conservators for the best scientific, design and popularizing works on monument protection and museum studies. For 2007, there were awarded 10 prizes, 5 distinctions and 2 honourable mentions. The Special Prize was awarded by the Presidents of the Polish Monument Conservation Workshops S. A. and the Association of Monument Conservators, and the prize “The Book of the Year” was awarded by the General Board of the AMC. The final accent of the Celebrations was awarding the “Laurels of 2008” . granted by the magazine “Spotkania z Zabytkami” (“Encounters with Monument”.) - to the owner and protector of a private wooden manor house from southern Poland. The celebrations of the International Day of Monument Protection in 2008, allowed for reminding again about the importance of cultural heritage, helped to integrate people interested in and passionate about monument protection, and resulted in events and discussions enriching the widely understood high culture
