International audienceIn Athens, the owl is both the bird-attribute of Athena and a political symbol of thecity. However, on a corpus of Attic red-figures vases, the diskoi are decorated with anowl motif in black silhouette presented in front of the spectator. Held, stretched, placedon the ground or presented close to the face, these owl diskoi particularly highlight thisowl motif which is part of the Athenian culture.
