Intérêts du polyetheretherketone en odontologie prothétique

Currently, new biomaterials are appearing in dentistry. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK), first used in the aerospace industry and then widely used in the medical field, particularly in orthopedic surgery, is trying to make a place in prosthetic dentistry. This work presents, in a first part, the different chemical, thermal, mechanical and biocompatibility properties that make this material interesting for a clinical application in dentistry. The second part presents the use of PEEK in the different fields of prosthetic dentistry whichare implantology (implant, abutment, healing screw...), joint prosthesis and removable prosthesis (partial and complete). The application protocols and the contribution of computeraided design and manufacture are discussed. The third part proposes a discussion of this material and its possibility of development in the field of dentistry.Actuellement, de nouveaux biomatériaux font leur apparition en odontologie. Le polytheretherketone (PEEK) tout d’abord utilisé dans l’industrie aérospatiale puis largement répandue dans le domaine médical notamment dans les chirurgies orthopédiques, tente de se faire une place en odontologie prothétique. Ce travail présente, dans une première partie, les différentes propriétés chimiques, thermiques, mécaniques et de biocompatibilité qui rendent ce matériau intéressant pour une application clinique en odontologie. La deuxième partie présente l’utilisation du PEEK dans les différents domaines de l’odontologie prothétique que sont l’implantologie (implant, pilier, vis de cicatrisation…), prothèse conjointe et prothèse adjointe (partielle et complète). Les protocoles de mise en œuvre ainsi que l’apport de la conception-fabrication assistée par ordinateur y sont évoqués. La troisième partie propose une discussion autour de ce matériau et ses perspectives de développement dans le domaine de l’odontologie
